I feel compelled to write this letter in order to express my opinion

July 24, 2010

Dear Editor,

I feel compelled to write this letter in order to express my opinion that the conduct on the part of some individuals in this particular political campaign season has been appalling, to say the least.

My husband, Bob Spence, is running for election to the Jackson County Legislature in the 6th District.  He has worked very diligently to secure locations for placement of his political signs, both in neighborhoods and in business districts.  In all campaigns, we expect to lose some yard signs; however, as of this date, at least 21 of our yard signs have been stolen in the Lakewood area alone, and countless numbers of our large signs have either been stolen or mutilated. I wish to say that anyone who subscribes to this kind of behavior is a disgrace to polite society.

I would like you to know this about my husband.  He is an honorable man, with a very highly defined sense of integrity.  I would also like you to know that no one connected with his campaign, either supporters or family, would in any way participate in the insidious act of ruining another candidate’s property  -- not even one of them!  I do not wish to cast aspersions on any one person or group, but would rather call upon all candidates and supporters to simply do the right and honorable thing and respect each other’s work and efforts.

While my children and myself are angered by this behavior, my husband instead, as he always has, insists upon taking the high ground, reminding us that all things remain in God’s hands and He has called us to a life of respect, not revenge.

Sincerely,
Sharon Spence
