Past Post Commander & Auxiliary President Banquet
By Ken Davis

At their annual banquet last Saturday, May 8th, VFW Post 5789 and Ladies Auxiliary honored the men and women who have served as Post Commander or Auxiliary President in the past.

Mayor Randy Rhoads and his wife, Mary Ann dropped by to bring greetings to the veterans and their guests.

Following dinner and introductions, the Post paid tribute to Michael Liebig of Scout Troop 220 by presenting him with a citation and a monetary gift.  Michael represented the Post in the VFW Eagle Scout of the Year program.

Next, the Post honored five public safety officers as they do each year.  This year's honorees were Officer of the Year Josh Patterson of the Lee's Summit Police Department, Firefighter of the Year Shawn Burgess of the Lee's Summit Fire Department, Trooper Ryan Wood of Troop A of the Highway Patrol, Sgt. Scott Goodman of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and Sgt. Jeff Palecek of the Grain Valley Police Department.

Each of the honored officers was presented with a special citation and a restaurant gift card from the VFW Post, and a resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives presented by Rep. Will Kraus.  Rep. Kraus, a member of Post 5789, was the featured speaker for the evening.  Each of the honored public safety officers was accompanied by family, friends and their co-workers.  The banquet was hosted by Commander Mike Vierow and President Trudy King, and Ken Davis served as master of ceremonies.
