On the origins of Veterans Day

Armistice Day commemorates the signing of the
armistice between the Allies and Germany in Compiegne,
France, ending World War I on the Western front. It was
signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

POW/MIA Remembrance Day and Fish Fry

VFW Post 5789 Ladies Auxiliary will be serving Fish and Chips on Friday Sept. 16, 2011, at the post home located at 329 S.E. Douglas.  Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu will consist of fried fish, French fries, hush puppies, coffee, tea and dessert.

All About Phil Silvain of Lake Lotawana

On January 3rd, 1929 a son was born to Frank and Eunice Moray Silvain in Kansas City, Ks. and they named him Phillip. His father was employed at the Amour Packing Co in Kansas City, Ks. At the age of three the family moved south of Belton. His father then worked at DuPont and eventually worked at Lake City. Phil attended school in the Belton school district.
