Lee’s Summit Man Funds Home Base and School for African Orphanage
Robert Dye, a Lee’s Summit resident, recently contributed $10,000 to fund the purchase of a permanent home and school for an African orphanage started by his Granddaughter, Amanda Dye. The orphanage has 20 children at present and has been growing each year. It is located near the capital city of Lusaka, Zambia.
Amanda met Oprah Winfrey as a young girl and was so inspired by her regarding the desperate need of the African people that she joined Children’s International and went to Africa as a teenager with only a backpack and a strong will to make a difference.
She made all the necessary contacts and gained the needed approvals from officials in Zambia and organized the creation and ongoing operation of the orphanage.
Amanda is presently a student at William Jewell College in Liberty and is nearing graduation. She keeps in contact with the orphanage over the internet. Amanda has established a charity, The Energy of Hope and solicits contributions to that charity to continue the orphanage at Lusaka.
Her Grandfather made the contribution in hope that the purchase would provide a sustaining home base for permanent operation of the orphanage. It is his dream that the orphanage can serve a dual purpose – To provide a life of promise and hope and unlimited future possibilities for many orphans and that the school will become an agricultural learning center for Zambia.
Mr. Dye is appealing on behalf of the orphanage to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Oprah Winfrey, The John Deere Corp and Heifer International to provide assistance. He realizes that agricultural development is an essential need throughout the African continent and will be a primary factor in uniting the African territories, help eliminate poverty and make it possible for economic improvement for all the people.
