On April 1, 2010, at 1:00 PM, the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to an automatic alarm for the businesses at 1333 NE Douglas Road. An employee of Fortuna Wok called 911, and advised of a fire in the kitchen. Fire department dispatchers advised the employees to evacuate the building.
When the fire department arrived, nothing was showing from the outside of one-story strip commercial building. Firefighters entered the building to find that a large grease fire had occurred under the grease hood in the kitchen and began to spread out from under the hood. The fire was quickly extinguished by the hood fire suppression system and several sprinkler heads around the hood. The fire was under control at 1:13 PM.
The fire was contained to the area around the hood, with only minor smoke damage to the kitchen. All other businesses in the building remained open.
