Project Lifesaver Lee’s Summit is an electronic monitoring program that uses radio frequencies to locate missing persons who have been diagnosed with a brain disorder, such as autism, Alzheimer’s disease or Down Syndrome. Since its inception in the mid 1990s, Project Lifesaver International has completed over 1,300 searches with a 100% success rate. The program gives caregivers a sense of security while allowing clients to maintain their independence and quality for life. Clients wear a special bracelet that constantly transmits their own individualized radio frequency. When a client is reported missing, a specialized team of trained officers responds to the client’s last known location. Officers search for the client using tracking equipment that is directly linked to each client’s radio frequency. To ensure client privacy, radio frequencies are not monitored until the client is reported missing. Program Qualifications…To qualify for Project Lifesaver, clients must live in Lee’s Summit, have a history of wandering behavior, and have been diagnosed with a brain disorder. Clients must also have a caregiver or family member who checks on them daily. Cost…Project Lifesaver costs $10 per month and is billed quarterly to clients or their designated caregivers. This nominal fee pays for monthly battery and bracelet replacement. For client and caregiver convenience, trained officers perform monthly maintenance in-home. For further information, contact the Project Lifesaver Coordinator at 816.960.1700.
