At first glance the stark white, the modern tables and chairs, the minimalist décor strikes you as cool and classy. But it doesn’t take long for you to feel the heat. The heat generated by the passion for their food, passion for the quality, passion for the process… the guest experience … the community.
b:2 is the Circle Restaurant Group’s burger boutique fashioned specifically for Lee’s Summit. Creators of blanc burgers + bottles this team has rapidly become a force in the locally owned restaurant scene. More importantly, this team is on a first name basis with all of their local vendors.
After living in Lee’s Summit for a number of years owner Ernesto Peralta and wife / partner Jenifer Price left for Arizona where Ernesto continued is career with The Capital Grille restaurants. But, the Kansas City area had become home and it wasn’t too long before they wanted to ‘go home’. So the planning for a wine bar with food (The Drop) began.
At the same time a young couple who had met in Kansas City moved to Arizona and enrolled in the Le Cordon Bleu program at Scottsdale Culinary Institute. Upon graduation they moved to St Simons Island, Georgia to work at the five-star resort The Lodge. A move to Atlanta and a new baby followed and Josh and Abbey-Jo Eans felt the call to ‘come home’ to be closer to Abbey-Jo’s family.
And with that way that families have, Jenifer’s mom and her best friend Abbey-Jo’s mom connected these two creative couples.
Ernesto had a vision for the type of food he wanted and Josh knew exactly what he was talking about. Soon Josh was developing the menu and then couldn’t resist staying on to implement it. Then, once again, Ernesto and Jenifer had a vision of creating ‘The Capital Grille’ of the hamburger world and once again, Josh knew exactly what to do with the menu. This time the concept would be food with a bar.
With blanc well established in Mission Farms and on Country Club Plaza, Ernesto’s thoughts turned to Lee’s Summit. He saw a unique market and was determined to create Lee’s Summit’s own burger place. So once again the team went to work creating an upscale burger place while keeping the price down and recognizing the need to ensure ‘quick’ lunch hour service.
Josh calls the concept “retro, throw back, modern”. They focused on something different but ensured the quality they were already known for wasn’t compromised.
b:2 is the All American burger place. You may choose the b:mac, familiar but oh so different; the Kansas City tribute bbq bacon; or Lee Summit’s own summit burger, made with blue cheese, pickled red onion, horseradish mayo and arugula on a handcrafted potato bun. My favorite is the caprese made with fresh goat cheese, tomato, basil mayo, arugula and balsamic on rosemary focaccia ….heaven. If you are lucky enough to snag a coupon from the LS Tribune for the smoked gouda fries you may decide to become a vegetarian and live on them. To go with it, you might enjoy one of the 100 bottled American craft beers.
Ernesto and Josh both take tremendous pride in the relationship they have built with their vendors. You hear and sense their passion and commitment to being a locally owned business supporting locally owned businesses. They believe that this is just another part of ‘doing the right thing’. Ernesto is quick to tell you that Shatto Dairies had to buy 3 more cows. But Josh has updated information; the count is now up to 20 additional cows. Foo’s Frozen Custard has more hands scooping ice cream and Farm to Market’s bread baking has grown exponentially and the local impact goes on. b:2 is working with a local Lee’s Summit bakery to develop a gluten free bread. Both Ernesto and Josh are looking forward to partnering with our local community and building additional relationships here.
b:2 is located at 860 N.W. Blue Parkway in the Summit Fair Shopping Center. Business hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call 816-246-9696 or go to www.b2-burgers.com.
