Assualt Results in Serious Injury

February 24, 2010
On 2-24-10 at approximately 2:30 AM Deputies were dispatched to a local hospital to contact the victim of an apparent assault which occurred in the unincorporated area of southeast Jackson County.  Upon contacting the victim the deputy was informed that the assault had occurred in the 8400 block of Russell Rd., south of Grain Valley in unincorporated Jackson County.
The victim was being treated for extensive injuries and was unable to provide total information.  After further investigation it was learned that the suspect may still be at the Russell Rd. residence and an attempt to contact him was met with negative results.
Later this morning it was believed that suspect and a young child were at the residence and the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team was activated to insure the safety of the child and extract the suspect.  The negotiator for the Sheriff’s Office was able to establish contact with the suspect and he surrendered to the tactical team deputies without incident.
The young child was unharmed and placed in protective custody.  The victim remains in a local hospital.

No charges have been filed at this time and the matter remains under investigation.
