Archbishop O’Hara High Students to Spend Day in Service
February 7, 2010
By Mary Patricia Storms, Communications Director
Senior centers, food pantries, early childhood centers and grade schools throughout the metro are destinations for Archbishop O’Hara’s sophomores and freshmen this week. Over the course of two days the students will travel in small groups to provide a morning of service at the various locations. February 10, the freshman class, accompanied by teachers, will provide service at St. Louis Senior Center, Operation Breakthrough, Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Cross Senior Center, Coronation Food Pantry, Our Lady of Peace Activity Center, and five elementary schools. The students begin the day with 8:15 Mass at St. Regis Church, then will load buses and vans for their destinations. The students will return to O’Hara by 1 p.m. for lunch and reflection. February 11, the sophomore class will follow a similar schedule, traveling to Father Hix Senior Center, St. Louis Senior Center, Operation Breakthrough, Holy Cross Senior Center, Coronation Food Pantry and five elementary schools. In addition to the obvious benefit of the service day, the service days give the students opportunities to work at various agencies before committing to a single agency for their junior year when they will perform 30 or more hours.
